Capt. Michael Mungai is a Maritime Lecturer at the Maritime Transport Department of the Sharjah Maritime Academy. He was previously a senior lecturer at Warsash Maritime School in the United Kingdom. He delivered courses for Cadets, Chief mates and Master students in the fields of Navigation.

Capt. Mungai also worked at the Kenya Maritime Authority for 14 years rising from marine officer to a Port State Control Officer. He was instrumental in the development of Maritime Regulations under the Merchant Shipping Act of Kenya. He also participated in the development of the maritime curricula to the current one in use which is competency based as opposed to the traditional theory based.

Capt. Mungai has conducted consultancies under the purview of the European Union on Maritime Pollution Prevention and was the lead consultant for the development of the Marine Pollution prevention Syllabus in Kenya. He has also consulted for the International maritime Organization as a Maritime Safety and Security expert under the Djibouti Code of Conduct where he conducted trainings for Yemen, Djibouti, Sudan, Somali, Kenya and Djibouti. He also did a consultancy for the East African Community under the Lake Victoria Basin Authority for the mapping of Aids to navigation on Lake Victoria side of Kenya.

Capt. Mungai is a holder od MSc in Marine Operations Management from Middlesex University in the United Kingdom. He also holds a BSc Degree in Marine Operations from Solent University-UK, Diploma in Port and Shipping Management and a Diploma in Marine Survey from Lloyds Maritime Academy-UK.

Capt. Mungai worked on board Navy ships for 8 years rising to the position of Captain before switching to the Merchant Navy where he pursued his sea career for another 10 years rising to Master Mariner.

Capt. Mungai has a wealth of Maritime experience spanning over two decades with specialties in Maritime Safety, Security, Survey, Audits and Maritime education.
