Dr. Amal Fawzi

Dr. Amel Fawzi is Head of Student Affairs and a Faculty member in the Sharjah Maritime Academy (SMA). Dr. Amel obtained her PhD in Applied Linguistics in 2017. She is a competent University Lecturer and student affairs professional with 24 years' experience in the field of higher education with a particular focus on teaching, education management and leadership. She possesses sound knowledge and a 24-year proven experience in teaching interdisciplinary courses at the undergraduate and the postgraduate levels for bilingual students, including Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), translation, Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), English for Specific Purposes (ESP), maritime English, academic writing and other associated domains. She is a student-oriented leader who works on empowering students and improving their knowledge, skills and competency while preparing them for the labour market. Dr. Amel has strong experience in managing and leading academic departments and remedial programs. She spent decades working on enhancing students’ English language proficiency to assist them in joining their majors and professional career. Her research interest includes second language acquisition, forensic linguistics in analysis of maritime incidents and accidents, sustainability in education, current issues and trends in TESOL in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context, artificial intelligence (AI) in English language learning, new trends in teaching of maritime English and integrating bridge simulators sessions in maritime English classes.
