The General Education Program (GEP) at Sharjah Maritime Academy complements any professional maritime-related program offered at the institution; this includes Maritime Transport, Marine Engineering, and Maritime Logistics. It provides a comprehensive program of study that aims to equip learners in the field of maritime transport with a variety of skills needed to secure a successful academic and professional life in the field.

General Education Skills

The GEP addresses the skills that enable learners to secure a successful academic and professional life. It offers a comprehensive enhancement of learners’ levels of competency in communication skills, language skills, cultural values, religious integrity, innovation and entrepreneurship, critical thinking, and other skills. Such skills and areas of knowledge shape learners’ personalities and guarantee successful calibers in all walks of life.

Program Objectives


The GEP aims at achieving the following objectives:

a. Enhancing learners’ leadership skills and teamwork which will help them succeed in their academic and professional lives and contribute to the development of their communities.
b. Improving learners’ communication skills, innovation, and creativity.
c. Increasing learners’ awareness about their religion and culture and encouraging them to demonstrate values of tolerance and acceptance of others.
