- Assist Head of Marine Engineering Technology Program as required
- Teach a range of subjects including Marine Propulsion Systems, Engineering Management, Marine Engineering Operations, and other related topics relating to STCW III/I requirements, and as required by the Head.
- Use appropriate, innovative and effective pedagogic approach in the classroom. Deliver lectures and lead seminar groups as appropriate.
- Participate in the examination/ assessment process including the setting of papers, preparing marking schemes, agreeing marks with other staff. Use appropriate and innovative forms of assessment practices to enhance learning and teaching.
- Responsible for updating own discipline knowledge to develop research informed teaching.
- Ensure full compliance with the requirements of the timetable and the annual academic calendar.
- Conduct research for career development, aligning with the Academy’s ambition to be a research-active institution.
- Provide timely, constructive, formative and comprehensive feedback to students using all forms of communication.
- Deliver maritime training courses as required by the Line Manager.
- Be prepared to travel as required and occasionally work outside of standard working hours as in the contract.
Qualification, Skills and Experience:
- E: STCW Class 1 Certificate of Competency (Engineer) Unlimited
- E: MSc or equivalent Master level academic qualification in relevant subject
- P: Teaching qualification
- E: Ability to fluently speak, write and communicate in English at the highest level of professionalism.
- E: Team player, approachable, sensitive towards all cultures.
- E: Work as and when required under pressure with the intention to complete task as promptly and efficiently as is possible
- E: Experience of maritime education and/ or training.
- P: Sailed as a Chief Engineer on merchant navy deep sea vessels.
- P: Experience of working in an industry supporting seafarer.
- P: Educational experience with leading courses/ programs, revising course content, developing new programs and courses.
- P: Knowledge of student-centered teaching and learning methodologies.
